My name is Ercole Wild. I have been a mountain guide since 2008, professionally since 2016, and this is my first and only job.
I am a Medium Mountain Guide / Hiking Instructor of the Regional College of Alpine Guides Abruzzo, an International Mountain Leader (UIMLA), and an Instructor of Nordic Walking from the Italian School of Nordic Walking.
I decided to become a guide after various mountain experiences, which started almost thirty years ago, to share what I had learned. After having traveled many mountains and places between the Apennines and the Alps. After feeling ready.
Being a mountain guide was truly what I wanted to do in life. For me, accompanying someone in the mountains is a journey to transmit constant emotions — walking, storytelling, breathing. With professionalism, passion, dedication, heart and mind, of course, always putting safety first, because zero risk, especially in the mountains, does not exist.
In 2015 I created Montagne Selvagge: a website and Facebook page to share on social media my mountain experiences, my thoughts and the events I organize. Over the years, in my little way, through my guided hikes, I have introduced many people to the places where I live, their history and their beauty. Not only that — during multi‑day treks, sometimes the day hikes too, the people who come into the mountains with me stay overnight in hotels, B&Bs, agritourisms and refuges, consume in bars and dine in restaurants. I contribute, in my small way, to the growth of the local economy.

Born from the pen of the creator of Montagne Selvagge — who organizes guided hikes throughout the region of Abruzzo, driven by the desire to share and let people appreciate the beauties of a region rich in history and ancient traditions — the reflections contained in the book are at once the chronicle of a real and everyday experience in Nature, and an inner journey towards a healthy recovery of the relationship between man and mountain, between man and environment.
The book L’Odore del Selvatico is the winner of the 2023 Mario Arpea National Prize for mountain literature, poetry and cinema, ranked first place in the published mountain poetry category.
