MARÍA MARTÍN

My name is María. I'm from Barcelona and live in the city of Barcelona.

I'm 37 years old and I've spent all my free time climbing mountains for over 17 years. I started in this world when I discovered that the city wasn't for me, that I needed to breathe fresh air and be in constant contact with nature, and if I could climb very high walls, even better. By the age of 20, I had already climbed several 3,000m peaks in the Pyrenees and traveled to Africa in search of my first mountain over 4,000m high. A couple of years ago, I discovered ice climbing, and today I train my body and mind to be able to climb icefalls in the cold winters anywhere in the world.

I love cold countries, like Canada, where I often travel to find the best ice in the world. Our country rarely experiences cold weather, so I combine my training with drytooling, a climbing discipline that has recently arrived in my country.

Mixed mountain climbing is my passion.

My passion is the mountains a child might draw, the lonely, sharp mountains. I climbed Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, the Eiger, and Elbrus, and almost reached the summit of Alpamayo twice, among other beautiful, sharp mountains. I had the opportunity to collaborate with a charity expedition and climb the Khumbu waterfall, reaching Camp 1 on the Everest route. And I organized an adventure with minimal resources, without Sherpas or outside help, to climb Ama Dablam. I will continue my search for those great, beautiful, and sharp mountains of the world.
