Sonja Möderndorfer
For me, mountaineering is not a competition but a deep passion where I put my heart and soul into it.
My name is Sonja Möderndorfer, and I am 29 years old.
I grew up with my two brothers and my parents in an idyllic part of Carinthia, right at the foot of the Dobratsch Mountain in the Gail Valley – a truly beautiful piece of land. From a young age, I was fascinated by the natural beauty of my surroundings and the majestic presence of the mountains, which always drew me outdoors. The untouched nature in this charming corner of the Alps sparked a great curiosity and adventurous spirit in me. With the boundless energy of a child, my mother, who was always loving and generous, often took me on long hikes. Under her care, I had the opportunity to gain valuable experiences in the mountains from an early age.
Driven by a deep thirst for knowledge, at the age of 14, I aspired to climb higher mountains and dreamed of conquering some of the most beautiful peaks of the Alps.
Currently, I work full-time in the emergency department at Innsbruck Hospital. My job is very demanding, time-intensive, and often challenging. However, I try to make the most of every free moment by dedicating myself to nature. The desire to face new alpine challenges grows within me every day. Therefore, since 2017, I have volunteered with the local mountain rescue service, where I have been able to acquire valuable alpine skills. The training lasts a total of four years, during which you learn how to navigate in the mountains, master various rescue techniques, and apply them even under difficult weather conditions.
I started paragliding some time ago - to see more of our beautiful region from above.
For the past few years, my loyal dog Ylvie, a Siberian Husky, has accompanied me on all my journeys. She is always by my side – whether on my mountain hikes or in daily life.
